Complementing a previous exhibit on the late Parisian modernist, Nena Saguil: Landscapes and Inscapes: From the Material World to the Spiritual takes readers on a colorful journey into the life and works of the revered artist-expatriate.

Eminent art critic Emmanuel Torres traces Saguil's professional life through vivid accounts from those who knew her most, and extensive annotations of 60 selected works. Examine the creative transformation of a modernist once underrated and unheralded—from her earthy Philippine scenes to abstract cosmic visions.

OFFER 'ZHANGZHOU WARE' AT YOUR STORE
Zhangzhou Ware Found in the Philippines:
"Swatow" Export Ceramics from Fujian 16th - 17th Century

    By Rita Tan
    24 x 28 cm, 192 pages, Full color, Softbound

    PhP 2,000

Zhangzhou ware was produced during the 16th and 17th centuries in the Zhangzhou district of Fujian, China to meet the ceramics demand of China's Asian neighbors.

Zhangzhou Ware Found in the Philippines explores the range and variety of Zhangzhou ware shipped to the Philippines during the Ming Dynasty. With more than 170 photographs of Zhangzhou ware and maps of Chinese kilns and Filipino shipwrecks that contained such pieces, this book substantiates historical accounts of the Philippines being one of the thriving markets of China's ceramic trade in the late Ming period. The types, forms, and designs of this rustic, yet charming ceramic are also examined in great detail.

We offer many of our publications and gifts for consignment to specialty shops and bookstores. If you are a museum store, art gallery, or gift shop and are interested in selling Yuchengco Museum products, please contact Elma Abrina at 889-1234 or via e-mail at [email protected].

    WATER DRAGON GALLERY OPENS

    Second floor

Celebrate the opening of the new Water Dragon Gallery at the second floor with two simultaneous shows. The first is an exhibit of prints by the Philippine Association of Printmakers. Featured artists are Ambie Abaño, Charito Bitanga, Gig de Pio, Raul Isidro, Mario Parial, and Ronald Ventura, among others. Nature-inspired jewelry and home decor by Davao designer Ann Tiukinhoy Pamintuan are also featured. If there's a particular print or sculpture that you like, you can purchase it to add interest, energy, and color to your home or workplace.

The Water Dragon Gallery is a space dedicated to offering fine artwork for sale and learning about the Philippine art scene. The modern split-level venue also provides artists and designers the opportunity to showcase their art to a larger audience.

The Water Dragon Gallery will host a new artist every two weeks. Focusing on young and established artists, the gallery's exhibit calendar will include solo, group, and thematic shows. Original artwork for sale will range from photographs, prints, and paintings to jewelry and small sculptures from a variety of genres and styles.

Gallery hours are Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more details, call 889-1234 or e-mail [email protected].

Zeitgeist Becomes Form: German Fashion Photography 1945 - 1995 is more than just a simple history of fashion and how it was photographed. This upcoming exhibit of 188 photographs covers 50 years of fashion photography in Germany—from Wolfgang Tillmans to Peter Lindbergh, Helmut Newton, Olaf Martens, and Jürgen Teller.

The pictorial language of the photographers, the models, as well as the clothing, the backgrounds, and the technical quality of the photography take visitors far beyond the 'ins' of fashion. These images tell fascinating stories about the so-called Zeitgeist ("spirit of the times")—changes in society, codes of morality, and the feelings and longings of people at a point in time.

Zeitgeist Becomes Form is an exhibit of ifa - Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations presented by the Goethe-Institut Manila, Yuchengco Museum, and Rogue Magazine in cooperation with YoCard.
